Door handles on rose or backplate?
Start with the door preparation and the required locking function. Then compare the appearance and finish.
Two ways to mount a lever handle
A lever on rose sits on a compact round or square base. Where a keyhole or privacy control is needed, it is usually fitted separately below the lever.
A lever on backplate sits on a longer plate. Depending on the version, the plate may include an opening for a key, a cylinder or a privacy control.
Compare the details that affect your order
| Check | On rose | On backplate |
|---|---|---|
| Door coverage | Compact base; check whether existing holes remain visible. | Longer plate; compare its footprint with the old hardware. |
| Locking function | Confirm the separate escutcheon or privacy set where required. | Choose the plate opening to match the lock and door function. |
| Measurements | Check rose size, fixing holes, spindle and door thickness. | Also check plate dimensions and spindle-to-keyhole or cylinder centres. |
Replacing existing hardware
Send photographs of both sides of the door and the lock at the door edge. Record the fixing-hole positions, door thickness and spindle dimensions. For a backplate with a lock opening, measure the relevant centres and compare them with the lock drawing.
A similar-looking handle may use different fixings. Confirm the drawing and a sample before buying a batch or changing the door preparation.
Preparing a range for your market
List the door functions your customers need, such as latch-only, keyed locking or bathroom privacy. Separate the quantities by model, function and finish so the matching parts can be checked together.
Confirm what is included in each set: levers, roses or plates, spindle, screws and any escutcheons or privacy controls. Do not assume the lock body or cylinder is included.
Send us your handle reference
